Esthetician Schools and Careers in Charlotte

Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of the fastest-growing cities in America—and with growth comes opportunity. Between 2004–2014, no metro area added more residents—Charlotte just passed Indianapolis to become America's 16th largest city. Many of those new residents are millennials, bringing the city's average age to a young 35. That's good news for estheticians because younger people spend the most on skincare by far.

The city is also culturally diverse, which opens up new avenues for ambitious and unconventional beauty entrepreneurs. Rachel Roff opened a salon in Charlotte in the 2000s and founded Urban Skin Rx after noticing that African American women had fewer product choices—despite comprising half the female population in the South. The company just won its second Forbes Beauty and Money Spotlight Award.

Unlike so many struggling retail chains, skincare giant Sephora is riding the beauty boom into a major out-of-mall expansion. One of the first new locations will be in Charlotte. A short drive away in Oxford is Revlon Consumer Products Corporation's largest manufacturing plant. In 2020, the cosmetics giant was one of six companies to win the 2019 Governor's Export Award for its economic contributions to the state.
