Welcome, and congrats on looking into Oregon barbering programs! We have helped over two million cosmetology school students find information and enroll in the right programs — including barbering training. This complex skillset requires training to achieve master status in such areas as: haircutting and styling, shaving, retail, business practices, and other relevant topics. Those last couple are especially essential if you want to open your own barber shop one day. And why not pursue barbering as a long-term career? Just use Monte Gibson, a Prineville barber as your role model.
He's been cutting hair since 1968 and has no plans of retiring anytime soon. Like many barbers, his presence throughout the life of his clients makes him hard for some to separate from; even after they move out of state. When you earn your barbering license in Oregon, you will need to renew it every two years – no later than the last day of your birthday month. Luckily, the Oregon Board of Cosmetology sends out reminders and applications about a month before yours will expire. Although you won’t have to complete any continuing education courses, we think it’s a good idea to take 1-2 a year to keep up with your skills. The cost to renew is $45 and must be done every two years by the last date of the month you received it.
