I had heard so many good things about this school, my PT ladies all come here to get their nails done and they always come out super cute with beautiful designs and they said they're very good about removing the polish after and it doesn't take as long.
But that was not the experience I had.
I spent $30 (was was going to be $35) on a gel removal and trim with soak, both of which were left incomplete. I came here thinking it'd be cheaper than a normal nail salon since it was a beauty school, as most of the time they are.
The gal going my nails was super sweet and nice to talk to, but she did not do a good, or complete job on the removal, and forgot my soak. It started when she had trimmed my nails wayy father back that I had anticipated (granted I should told her how long/short I wanted them to be kept, but I sort of assumed she'd ask before she cut as most places do). Then she kept filing over my cuticle and caused some damage to my left pinky, even after saying 'ow' multiple times. After the 'removal', she sent me home with my own bag of nail files and a buffer to finish the job at home because she could only get it to the thinnest later and couldn't get the edges of the nail. Granted I'm glad she did so I could finish the job at home, and it was sweet of her to do if I wasn't paying $20 for a removal I expect to be completed.
Then I had a $15 charge for a trim and soak, which I had to remind her to do as she was ready to head up to the front, and she only did the trim (again, without asking the length or shape I'd want). I didn't have the energy to remind her about the soak since she had told me multiple times she was eager to get to lunch right after my appointment, so I felt too awkward to say anything again.
After we got to the front desk, she grabbed a teacher and the teacher even said "Oh you only did a removal ok", so I guess the teacher didn't even think they had been trimmed/soaked.
After the gal went back to her station, I mentioned to the front desk lady that my service was incomplete, and showed her. She then explained that the removal doesn't come with a trim and soak. I showed her it was on the receipt she printed before my appointment, and she said people only get the soak if they want it, and did I really want it? I mean, it's on my recipt and I'm paying for it so yeah I do, but I didn't want to make a deal out of it so I was fine moving on without it. I just wanted to let someone know. The the front desk lady then said "Oh, so she didn't complete her service, she needs to come back and complete it then." and called the nail gal to the front desk. I asked her kindly not to do that, and it wasn't a big issue, I just wanted her to know so she could address it later and more privately or something.
The front desk lady then borderline berated her in front of me for the incomplete service, and only was able to take $5 off (despite most of the service being left incomplete). I didn't want to embarrass the girl, or myself, any further so I just paid and left. I felt bad because the nail gal looked so disappointed by me, which was what I was trying to avoid the whole time...
If I had known it would've been just soaking with foils and filing the hell out of my nails, then I definitely would've done this at home and saved $30.
Granted I completely understand this is a school and students are learning, but unless clients can address their concerns with a teacher or someone without making the student or client uncomfortable, then they won't learn and improve as efficiently. I wish I could call and speak with a teacher directly without needing to go through the front desk lady.
Overall, I wish I could've spoken with a teacher after the service one on one to explain what areas I thought were done well and what areas could've used improvement so the teacher could explain it to the student one on one after the service in order to not embarrass the client for addressing their concerns.
P.S. Does this count as leaving a Google review and still apply for getting that gift card mentioned at the front? Just curious

I got my hair cut and styled here and it was actually nice and really affordable. Amazing students, but extremely rude and bitter front desk workers. They seemed to be teachers ? I’m not sure, they were really old. Only reason why I don’t go often is so that I don’t have to interact with the front desk employees, they are so insufferably rude. Old people am I right lol

The minus 1 star is for the less than pleasant(rude) staff member who answered the phone when I called to make the appointment.
The experience I had with my student stylist(Alyssa) was really great. Definitely worth five stars.
The truth of it is that who you get really is just luck of the draw. I was fortunate to be with someone who was at the end of their training. I genuinely believe this makes a difference.
I am an African American woman with thick, long hair. I was nervous but felt like my hair was taken care of.
Overall I had three people work on my hair another student (Jazzy) and the head of education who was offering words of encouragement and knowledge in how to care for individuals with my similar hair type.
There were other instructors who came by and chimed in on what technique should be used. I can see how this could be frustrating for both the student and client in the chair.
Im not crazy about getting a blunt cut(straight across vs in more of a curve shape) however that is 100% on me for not speaking up.
I would certainly return for this basic service. In the end you arent paying much and sometimes that means you have to talk the final result with a grain of salt.
