Colorado licenses barbers through the Office of Barber and Cosmetology Licensure. Currently, the state requires that barbers complete a training program of at least 1,500 hours. Testing goes through PSI, and you must pass both a written test and a skills test. The written test fee is $56 and the practical skills test fee is $71. You receive your license after passing both exams.

Barber licenses expire on March 31 of even-numbered years and cost $26 to renew or $41 to reinstate if you have allowed your license to lapse. These licenses cost $32 to renew or $47 to reinstate.
