Education Details

Barbering programs are fairly specialized when compared to many other types of cosmetology programs. Rather than learning a little bit about many different parts of the field, you learn solely about services provided to men. This includes facial hair—you may discover proper shaving techniques, find out how to shave and trim facial hair, and use products to keep it smooth and soft. The rest of your curriculum may focus on the hair care needs of men. This involves learning about different cutting tools and techniques. Your instructors may even cover working with men who have thinning or balding issues.

Rhode Island will send you out a renewal notice about 60 days before your barber license is set to expire. This occurs by September 30th every two years, and comes with a $50 renewal fee. If you let your license expire, you will also have to pay a $30 fee for each year that your license has expired. This fee cannot exceed more than $200. Rhode Island does not have any ongoing continuing education requirements from professionals. But, we think it’s always a good idea to look for ways to keep your skills sharp!
