Upon completing your CO nail tech training, you're ready to work your way through the rest of the licensing process. The Office of Barber and Cosmetology Licensure is your next step. They charge $155 in application and testing fees. After you pass a written test and a skills test, you may get your license and jump into the first phase of your career.

Education Details

Completing a reputable training program before you start working is not only required for licensure, it helps you feel confident about your ability to safely and efficiently work with clients. To qualify for licensure in Colorado, you need at least 600 hours of training at an approved school. This includes some theory training and plenty of hands-on training with mannequins and clients. Barber, esthetician, hairstylist and manicurist licenses expire on March 31 of even-numbered years and cost $26 to renew or $41 to reinstate if you have allowed your license to lapse. All cosmetologist licenses expire on April 30 on an annual basis. These licenses cost $32 to renew or $47 to reinstate. Currently, no continuing education hours are required to renew your cosmetology license in Colorado. However, continuing education should be considered part of the field and part of doing business as a cosmetologist.
