Before you can work with clients and start removing their hair, you have to have a solid understanding of how hair grows and how it affects skin. In the theoretical part of your training, you may study hair growth cycles and find out how electrolysis interrupts that cycle. Practical experience is crucial, so get ready to spend plenty of time watching your instructor perform electrolysis and getting some practice yourself. As you progress through your education, you should learn how to use electrolysis effectively on different parts of the body. By the time you graduate, you should feel ready to independently perform electrolysis on patients.

Cosmetology license renewal in Tennessee is required every two years, and you can renew your license up to 60 days before its expiration date. Barber license renewal costs $80. Cosmetologist, esthetician, nail technician, natural hairstylist and shampooer license renewal costs $50. Instructor license renewal costs $60. You must pay a $25 late fee if your application is received after the expiration date. Cosmetology and barber instructors must complete 16 approved CEUs every two years. There are currently no continuing education requirements for beauty practitioners.
