Required to earn a massage therapy license

Idaho law regarding massage therapist licensure will be changing effective July 1, 2013. Prior to that date, massage therapists will continue to be licensed by their city of residence. After July 1, 2013, massage therapists will be required to obtain a national certification and licensure. The Idaho Board of Massage Therapy oversees this process, and the laws of the state have been changed to reflect the new requirements. Once the changes take effect, massage therapy schools will be required to provide students with at least 500 in class hours of coursework and hands on clinical work. Students will then have to pass one of the nationally recognized competency exams, either through the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards or the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. In massage therapy school students learn about anatomy and physiology, business practices and health issues specific to the industry. Students learn to work with clients and the wide range of situations they present through hands on clinical work in a student massage clinic.
