Mississippi Teacher Training Careers

$50,140

Average yearly salary for teacher training in Mississippi

One major benefit of starting your career in Mississippi: the career outlook for beauty instructors is excellent. Between 2012 and 2022, O*Net anticipates a 15% increase in post-secondary vocational teaching jobs. This includes the field of beauty instruction. This job growth rate is 3% higher than the national average (O*Net, 2012). If you have extensive experience in your field, a strong reputation in your beauty community, or lots of education, you may be in even higher demand as a cosmetology instructor. Unlike cosmetologists, who get part of their income from tips and gratuities, instructors are typically paid on an annual or per-class basis. Estimates provided by O*Net indicate that the average salary for a cosmetology instructor in Mississippi is $42,800 per year. The top 10% of instructors in this state earn more than $68,800 per year (O*Net, 2013).

The same reasons you may have gotten into cosmetology in the first place - changing lives, making people feel good about themselves, and interacting with a variety of people - are the same things that you may enjoy about a career in cosmetology teaching. As an instructor, you may have students that look up to you and hope to emulate your success. What you say to them and how you teach them will stick with them throughout the duration of their career, so be sure you are dedicated to education before becoming a cosmetology instructor! You may enjoy a stable, traditional schedule as a cosmetology instructor, which is one of the main differences between this career and other cosmetology careers. Courses are taught at the same time every day or every week, so you can plan around the courses you are assigned each semester. In addition, cosmetology schools are typically closed on weekends and on holidays, so you may have more time for yourself and your family. To find out how to become a well-respected cosmetology instructor, you need only look at the successful instructors in your area. Janet Bain, a cosmetology instructor of more than 20 years, emulates what this field is all about. She is passionate about teaching, loves cosmetology, and truly wants to see her students succeed.
