Happy National Cosmetology Month 2013!
In addition to Halloween festivities, there is another major reason to celebrate in the month of October. That reason is National Cosmetology Month, an exciting holiday to commemorate the talents and gifts of the estimated 712,000 hairdressers and cosmetologists throughout the country. Without hairdressers to make us look beautiful, who would help us strive to achieve celebrities' latest looks, hairstyles and trends? Who would make us look great in front of our friends and loved ones? Who would help us achieve the professional look we need for the office? National Cosmetology Month is a time to show cosmetologists how much they mean to us by providing them with encouraging words of gratitude and appreciation, and of course a little gift or thank you card is always nice.
The Origins of National Cosmetology Month
National Cosmetology Month has come to fruition as a national holiday through the support of individual towns like Bozeman, Montana. In that town, the mayor has issued a proclamation that declares October to be National Cosmetology Month. The event began in 1987, and more than 52,000 members of the National Cosmetology Association have been recognizing it ever since that date. Every year, there is a specific theme that is chosen for celebration of the month. In 1987, the theme for that year was "Ask Us America. We'll Groom You For Success." The key purpose behind that theme was to increase the self-confidence and awareness of members from communities throughout the United States. Cosmetologists play a critical role in helping people to develop a positive self-image about themselves.
Celebrate National Cosmetology Month At Your Salon
There are plenty of ways for your salon or beauty school to make the most of this great holiday. Beauty schools like the Lamar Community College Cosmetology Department have begun to celebrate the month by featuring charity events for students. Students get to show off their latest cosmetology skills in performing haircuts, manicures and pedicures on members of the community for donations. During these charity events, members from the public have the opportunity to donate to business men who have been affected by life-changing events. Your salon or beauty school can decide upon which charity it wishes to support in order to celebrate National Cosmetology Month.
Showing Appreciation to Hairdressers
Customers can also get in on the excitement of National Cosmetology Month and show some appreciation for their hairdressers. A lovely bouquet of flowers, box of chocolates or gift certificate are a few charming ways to show gratitude to hairdressers. Even a small thank you note can make a cosmetologist’s day. Even better, customers may want to consider providing an added bonus check to hairdressers for all of the hard work that they do. An added bonus check in any amount will make hairdressers feel as though their work is genuinely appreciated by customers. The next time you want to consider celebrating this holiday, think of all the nice things that you can do for the hairdresser who has done so much in helping you feel confident and beautiful.
So from Beauty Schools Directory to you, happy National Cosmetology Month! How is your beauty school or salon recognizing the honorary month?
