Attending the Academy of Beauty Professionals has been a deeply disappointing experience, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it to anyone seeking quality education or reliable
beauty services. Despite the promises made during enrollment, my time at this institution left me feeling unprepared for a real career, and the environment itself fell far short of professional standards. To begin with, the educational approach at this school is severely lacking. The curriculum is
more of a cursory overview than a comprehensive training program. We were often given busy work that consumed our time without truly enhancing our understanding or practical skills. This
approach left little room for meaningful study, making it difficult to retain the information
needed to pass exams or feel confident in our abilities. It was not uncommon for us to be
assigned multiple projects while simultaneously cramming critical course content into short periods, leaving us consistently underprepared. Adding to this challenge was the constant shortage of supplies, even after we had earned our certifications, which limited our ability to
practice and refine our skills. The esthetician program, in particular, stands out for its unprofessional instruction. The primary
instructor routinely created a hostile learning environment, responding to student questions with impatience and dismissiveness. Rather than offering support or clarification, she often snapped at
students for seeking help, even when the questions related to material she had just covered. If a student sought guidance on a topic that had been previously discussed, the response was usually to “go back and read” rather than providing the support necessary for a thorough understanding. This approach stifled learning and created unnecessary anxiety among students. Furthermore, the grading system felt arbitrary and unfair. Projects, like the skin lesions assignment involving crackers and frosting, were poorly executed from the start. With insufficient supplies for all students, many were penalized despite factors beyond their control. Even when projects were completed, all students received identical grades, regardless of the quality of their work or the effort invested. This practice discouraged those who genuinely tried to excel, as there was no recognition for individual effort or punctuality. The physical environment of the school is equally disappointing. The break room is neglected, with a thick layer of dust on the light fixtures, bugs crawling around, and a refrigerator that smells of rotting food. The spa rooms, where students are expected to perform services, are cramped, dirty, and filled with outdated furniture, creating an atmosphere that is both unprofessional and unhygienic. The walls, painted in mismatched shades, are covered in wax splatters, and many electrical outlets are stripped and broken, yet we are still instructed to spray
them with disinfectant, ignoring basic safety protocols. Adding to this frustration is the administration’s lack of transparency and follow-through. With only four weeks left in our program, there were still multiple chapters left to cover, adding unnecessary stress as we scrambled to complete our studies. Despite reassurances from visiting
instructors that our concerns would be addressed, nothing ever changed, and the support we desperately needed never materialized. In summary, the Academy of Beauty Professionals fails to provide the supportive, professional, and well-structured education that students deserve, despite the significant financial investment required. The poor quality of instruction, lack of supplies, unclean facilities, and unresponsive
administration all contribute to a deeply unsatisfactory experience. I strongly advise prospective students to consider their options carefully and look elsewhere for a truly supportive and professional educational environment.
