I never felt comfortable speaking out before, but seeing so many other former students finally sharing their experiences gave me the courage to do the same. My time at this cosmetology school was incredibly disappointing and, honestly so unprofessional.
To start, Ms. Gigi is by far the most unprofessional teacher I’ve ever met. She constantly created drama with students — many of us were fresh out of high school — while she’s in her 40s. Instead of being a supportive mentor, she would talk down to students, pick favorites, and start unnecessary conflicts. She also made extremely inappropriate comments, including talking about how her own son “is so fine” and even flirting with clients while we were trying to focus on their hair. It was uncomfortable and embarrassing to witness, let alone work under.
Ms. B wasn’t much better. She regularly made inappropriate jokes and comments, including telling students that they should wash hair like they “make love — slow and soft, not hard and rough.” It was humiliating, especially considering that most students are only 17 or 18 years old. She also made remarks about students’ weight and appearance, which was damaging to people’s confidence and could easily trigger body image issues or eating disorders.
The attendance policy is another huge issue — you’re required to maintain over 90% attendance, and if you don’t, you’re charged $12 per hour missed. That adds up fast since one day is about 8–10 hours. It’s a money grab that feels completely unfair, especially for students who are already paying so much to be there.
You’re also not allowed to turn down clients — even if they’re rude, disrespectful, or you’re uncomfortable — or else you’ll be told to pack up, clock out, and go home for the day, plus receive a write-up. The “learning leaders” (teachers) are supposed to guide you, but most either disappear for long periods or make you feel stupid for asking questions in front of clients. It creates a toxic, fearful learning environment instead of one that builds confidence and skill.
On top of all that, there were serious hygiene and safety issues, including black mold in the washing machines and even some of the light fixtures. Complaints were brushed off and nothing was done for far too long.
The only saving grace of my experience was a few genuinely kind and caring teachers — Melissa, Janell, and Meredith (before she left) — who actually cared about students and treated us with respect.
If you’re considering this school, please think twice. It’s not worth the emotional stress, financial burden, or unprofessional environment. I truly hope they make major changes, but based on what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone.
Sincerely,
A former student who is hoping the new students get a much better experience.
(please note the school is also DELETING reviews from students)

Yesterday was my first experience as a client at Paul Mitchell the School Charlotte and from the first moment I walked in until I left I was impressed. Being a Cosmetologist myself (which I did not let anyone know until my service was completed, obviously my daughter knew) I was a tad nervous and was quickly settled. The consultation was spot on, wash room neat and up to modern salon standards. Laney was super nervous as I was her first live cut and being a stylist myself my hair is not the normal layer cut. It is razored, textured, messy, and all over the place. She was overwhelmed. In walks what I would call the most calm, reassuring, and helpful instructor that she needed at the time Gee Gee, she broke down my layers for Laney and helped her through the cut step by step. My over all experience was a 5 especially with my daughter of course and this particular instructor.

I’m extremely disappointed with my first and unfortunately last visit. I was wanting a deep brown, all over color. I left with color all over my face, with even asking for help and they told me to wash it off at home. I was told my service was $40 with $10 per bowl and asked my stylist to let me know as we go so I able to be aware of the end total. I was never told and my price billed from $40 to $80 which i truly don’t get. My girl only went back twice for more dye. I asked about it upfront and was given a rude response. I personally would’ve wanted to get a teacher and asked, but was told not possible with it being 845pm..? the communication is not up to par and my overall treatment from the moment i walked in was really disappointing. I wish i could’ve saved myself $80.
