I was genuinely considering attending this school, and my experience with my advisor started off very positive. Over time, however, the communication shifted. During several phone calls, the tone became unexpectedly harsh, and after I sent one detailed message explaining my situation, I did not receive any response for about a week. When the advisor eventually called, I missed the call due to an important commitment but returned it as soon as I could. The conversation that followed felt dismissive; I was told not to send long messages because “she didn’t have time,” even though it had only happened once.
I also received text messages from the advisor around 2 a.m. on more than one occasion, which I never complained about, but the overall attitude in our later interactions left me feeling discouraged and unwelcome. I attempted to continue communicating with short, brief messages, but the tone remained the same. I was eventually advised to try a different program or even a different school altogether, which was disappointing considering how hopeful I had been at the beginning.
I’m sharing my experience not to be harsh, but to be honest. I think constructive, respectful communication is important—especially for students who are trying to make big decisions about their education.
Edit: A representative at Swedish contacted me shortly after my review being posted. He helped clarify things , and addressed my concerns. This significantly improved my experience , and I’m extremely grateful they took the time to reach out to resolve this. My new admissions advisor has been extremely helpful and responsive. He took the time to understand my situation, corrected the issues I was experiencing, and is now doing his best to get me into the program I want by the month I’m hoping to start. I really appreciate his support and the effort he’s putting in to make this happen.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Administration needs to understand that they can make or break the experience for (prospective) students. I haven't even applied to the school yet and the administration has dissuaded me from doing so. Unprofessional and unorganized to say the least.

As a recent graduate, I unfortunately cannot recommend this school. For the amount of money students pay, the majority of the learning ends up being self-taught. During my work-study experience, the only truly supportive connections I made were with certain lab instructors and a few genuinely kind staff members. The lab team is the strongest part of the program--they care, they teach, and they want students to succeed. Because of them, the program could have so much more potential.
However, the academic side of the program is extremely lacking. Most professors do not actually teach, and online didactics should really be held in person. Students consistently feel dismissed or disrespected by some members of leadership. In my personal experience, Ms. April often spoke to students unprofessionally, and Ms. Peralta, the clinical coordinator, regularly made the clinical process stressful, disorganized, and unnecessarily difficult.
Clinical placements are very delayed, communication is poor, and professionalism is inconsistent, as she is disrespectful and racist. This affects students and their ability to progress on time.
Despite the challenges, the lab instructors truly work hard and create a positive learning environment. If you do choose to attend, rely heavily on your textbooks, build a strong personal study method, and be prepared to advocate for yourself. For the tuition cost, students deserve better structure, support, and respect.

"Swedish Institute has a 103-year history teaching massage," explains alumna Alexes. "There are many other massage schools in New York, but Swedish Institute kept coming up in random conversations. I enrolled at Swedish Institute post-knee replacement and it's been one of the best decisions I've made."
