My experience working for this institution was not good. I was treated unfairly based on my race and ethnicity. Systemic racism is very much alive and many African American are subjected to discriminatory practices in the workplace that get overlooked. I have been discriminated against in several work settings because of my race and ethnicity. The system does not protect us. The human resource manager Zeke, is basically a puppet on a string. He has no power, and does whatever he's told in an attempt to keep his job, and to fit in with the crowd. I have also heard of inappropriate behaviors from him during interactions with some staff members. I have no prove of this however. The so-called leaders at Indian Hills Community College should be ashamed of themselves. The details of what occurred will not be discussed in this review. Members of the institution completely denied my claims in an attempt to protect themselves. Stay away from this disgusting town and racist academic institution. The leadership team is corrupt. As a result, staff members are subjected to mistreatment and unfair behavior and practices. Promotions are given based on personal preference, how well you are liked by those with the ability to make changes, and who you know. The associate dean of the health science department was hired simply because she is liked by certain members in administration. She lacks the knowledge and skills to do the job but had the nerve to belittle me and question my abilities. I was new in my role and had a lot to learn which took time. They were aware of this when they hired me. This was later used against me. A new member of the team during the time that I was mistreated named Jennifer, was nothing less than a racist, arrogant individual. Things that occurred and the way that I was treated would not have taken place if I were white. This includes behaviors experienced with students and parents. I am proud of my race and ethnicity and have no desire to be anything or anyone else. The previous associate dean of health science Heidi, was also lazy and incompetent in her role. The dean at the time, Jill, quickly got promoted to vice president; a role that she does not belong in. Support is also lacking when assigned duties need to be accomplished, which requires contribution from other staff members across campus. After talking to community members, I have learned that the reputation of the college is not the best. Good leadership sets the foundation for a good business. This is clearly lacking at Indian Hills.
