Fire all the advising. I mean it. I came in to switch my major and be hopefully walked through the process the way I was with advisors in other campuses; I genuinely cannot fathom how lazy you have to be to hand me a paper and say "go do what it says" instead of helping me through the process. The office is empty and we have all the time in the world to sort this out. If your staff are so useless that a paper or 5 step website tutorial are the answer then maybe its time to fire them all and start over; and this isn't the only instance of HCC being stubborn and useless. My time at HCC has been nothing but difficult and time consuming, I've met awful professors that write their own positive reviews on RateMyProfessors (Lana Lapicco) and some that, quite frankly, could be replaced by a computer and the experience would only get better for students. HCC's only upside is being cheaper than other insitutions at the cost of them being money-hungry and exploiting students for their financial aid. If you are a high schooler considering community college then you should avoid HCC at all costs. If you are currently enrolled at HCC and are reading this, get out as fast as possible; this place is a waste of your time and is part of the reason so many people love to say "college is a scam." Thank you HCC for being the model example of how to NOT run an institution.
