If I could give Belbo Beauty Institute in Shreveport zero stars, I absolutely would.
I enrolled on March 16, 2026, expecting a PROFESSIONAL beauty education from a school charging nearly $20,000 in tuition. What I got instead was constant school closures, missing hours, rude administration, sanitation issues, and one of the most disorganized educational environments I have ever experienced.
Let’s start with the attendance issue. Based on my enrollment date, I should currently have around 264 completed hours. I only have 143. That is over 120 missing hours — not because I skipped class, but because the SCHOOL continuously shut down for weeks at a time with little to no communication. And when students understandably ask questions about the education WE paid for, we’re either ignored, talked down to, or treated like we’re inconveniencing the administration by expecting answers.
The communication at this school is honestly unbelievable. Students are told to “reach out” with concerns, yet replies are conveniently turned off on the communication platform half the time. Very transparent.
Now let’s discuss the condition of the building because this part genuinely shocked me. For a school collecting thousands upon thousands of dollars from students, the facility conditions were unacceptable. The bathrooms were disgusting to the point of being embarrassing. At one point there was reportedly ONE functioning toilet for the entire student body while administration had access to their own private restroom. Multiple sinks leaked onto the floor creating slip hazards, and concerns from students were repeatedly brushed aside like we were being dramatic for wanting a sanitary environment. And somehow, despite the state of the bathrooms, students were allegedly warned they could be sent home for spending “too long” in the restroom. Imagine paying almost $20k to be monitored like a middle schooler while using a bathroom that barely functions.
Then there’s the issue of student kits — which are INCLUDED in tuition costs. Some students close to graduation still had not received materials they already paid for. That alone should tell future students everything they need to know about the organization and accountability at this school.
The fingerprint attendance system is another disaster entirely. Students regularly have fingerprints fail during clock-in and are told administration will “fix it later.” Meanwhile, students are still being threatened with probation over attendance discrepancies. So somehow the system magically works when it’s time to punish students, but not when it’s time to properly credit hours? Interesting.
And what really pushed this situation over the edge for many students was the administration’s attitude when concerns were escalated. Students became so frustrated that multiple complaints were reportedly made to State Board requesting they investigate the school. When representatives finally came, instead of administration taking accountability or showing concern about WHY students felt the need to involve State Board in the first place, students were allegedly told they were “doing too much.” That response alone says everything about the level of professionalism and respect shown toward paying students.
The overall atmosphere is incredibly unprofessional. Students are paying customers and adults pursuing careers, yet many of us were treated with disrespect any time we raised completely valid concerns about safety, sanitation, scheduling, or missing educational hours.
At the end of the day, students are investing thousands of dollars and trusting this school with their education and future licensing requirements. In my opinion, Belbo Beauty Institute has failed to provide the professionalism, communication, organization, and basic respect that should come with that responsibility.
I strongly encourage anyone considering enrolling to do VERY thorough research, document everything, keep records of every missed hour and communication, and understand exactly what they are signing up for before handing this school a check.

I’m sharing my experience in the esthetics program as a warning to anyone considering this school!
Theres a major lack of hands-on training due to delayed and undelivered materials. The esthetics kits and products outlined in the handbook were not provided on time—or at all in many student cases—even well past the expected timeframe. After I inquired about the delayed delivery of student kits, administration removed the stated kit distribution timeline from the handbook, raising concerns about transparency and accountability. This directly affected the ability to properly learn and practice.
The school accepts federal financial aid (Pell Grants and student loans), yet fails to deliver the materials and training those funds are supposed to cover, which raises concerns about compliance.
There’s also clear favoritism among instructors. Some students receive more hands-on opportunities and support, while others are overlooked.
Additionally, there’s administrative issues including retaliation if you make complaints against instructors, inconsistent policy enforcement, and poor and unprofessional communication.
Due to my experience, I have filed formal complaints with the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology, FAFSA/Federal Student Aid, and the Louisiana Attorney General and legal advice.
If you’re considering this school, ask detailed questions, get everything in writing, make copies and document everything! Make sure youre getting what you paid for!
