For aspiring cosmetologists, be cautious when considering this institution, especially if you expect the education to justify the hefty price tag of over $20,000. The primary focus here appears to be on preparing students for the state board exam, but many struggle to pass both the theory and practical tests. The teaching quality is lacking, with numerous instructors unable to adequately cover all aspects of cosmetology. Despite being a cosmetology program, some teachers fall short in teaching essential skills like sculptured nail construction, haircuts and basic facials. In certain instances, students were left to learn haircutting independently due to insufficient guidance during evening sessions. The teaching methods are subpar, as some instructors simply distribute packets, write tasks on the board, or leave students to figure things out without proper support. It seems that anyone with a cosmetology license can become an instructor, resulting in a noticeable lack of teaching effectiveness. Additionally, the school environment is filled with drama and immaturity reminiscent of high school, with safety concerns sometimes overlooked. This place may have a negative impact on your mental well-being if you value your peace of mind. In conclusion, I advise against attending this establishment disguised as a school. While some instructors made the experience worthwhile, most have departed, leaving only a couple remaining. It's best to seek alternative options!

I am a recent graduate of Empire and the school was a complete waste of money and time. I am completely dissatisfied with the level of education I received. I am in the process of preparing for my practical for state board and I realize just how little I was taught. I was never told how to do a sculptured nail, a proper 90 degree haircut, and was never able to provide nail or aesthetic services the entire time on the senior salon floor. The only reason I gave an extra star is because of the people I got to meet in the evening program. My pre-salon classes were amazing until my instructor left. She was my saving grace for staying in the school. I don’t recommend Empire at all for education. I got no preparation for the state boards from the educators besides some outdated handouts. Go to another school.
