I always get my haircut there and consider myself lucky that I’m close enough to the salon that it’s easy to get to for me. Evelyn, Grace and Dorian at the front desk have been nothing but gracious - because I missed a number of appointments, due to my terrible schedule. They’re very kind:). The students are always nice, though some are more talkative than others. Human nature I guess. My hair has lots of whorls, waves and cowlicks, so many people find it difficult to cut my hair. Petra is great - she knows exactly what she’s doing, and I find her charming. Same for Becca. Everyone there seems genuinely nice. Both Petra and Becca run a very pleasant ship in the middle of a crowded salon - teaching. Overall, the vibe is quite professional, almost formal - and charming. Thank you all!

I have previously written a 5 star review for this place - had an incredibly negative experience here. I took the day off work because I always have difficulty scheduling here. I had a full highlight booked. I have a scalp condition I’ve had my whole life. It’s a bit dry. I get some red areas when it gets agitated. I spoke to my very kind hairstylist student, Mary (I believe), and she grabbed her instructor. Her instructor, Petra, someone who I’ve never seen here (to be fair is been going for 2 years and taken a break for about 6 months) came and said she “had to get a second opinion on my hair” before they started. She said because of the scalp condition I’d have to schedule again in 2 weeks. They could offer to wash my hair for 18 dollars. I will never be back. Petra never even brought the second opinion over. I understand safety and making sure people are ok but my dry scalp is something I’ve had for the 8 years I’ve been doing my hair. Incredibly negative experience. No respect for my time. No options. And what felt like incompetent leadership. Follow up: called around the area to see if anyone could fit me in bc I took the day off - explained through tears (it’s been a long ass week) what happened and the place checked my scalp and made an appointment for Saturday (they were booked up) so even more ?????? hate this place, bad vibes, incompetently run - grateful for the other hair place (!!!) and also everyone else there was kind so

Marci Messina even refers to her stylist, Alejandra, as a "hairgician," saying, "She graduates soon, so make an appointment NOW!" Is there a higher compliment for a cosmetologist-in-training?
The school's Chicago branch focuses on career preparedness in cosmetology and esthiology, beginning with introductory classes and ending with immersion in salon life and exam preparation. They don't make you wait until the last moment to work with clients-you practice on guests throughout much of your program.
The school was one of the first to recognize technology is becoming increasingly important in the beauty field. So, they give every student an iPad to do coursework on. They also provide ring lights and backdrops to make portfolios pop and help learners navigate social media self-branding.
