This was my first time visiting Catherine Hinds for a facial. I found all the staff to be welcoming and the facility was spotless. The esthetician student, Ruby, was excellent, explaining what she was planning for my care, as well as the instructor, MaryBeth, was attentive and made additional suggestions based on my skin. I felt I was a valued customer and plan on rebooking another session after the holidays. ThanksAgain !

I am currently attending CHI, and it has been the most amazing experience! The teachers are always willing to help and stand by students if they aren’t comfortable doing a service. All of my teachers have been absolutely amazing! They are so thorough, and kind. There’s a spa tech five minutes down the street, but I still chose to go to Catherine Hinds (an hour away) and I will forever be glad I did! The admins, teachers, and my classmates are all amazing!

Editor's Description

The Catherine Hinds Institute was opened by its namesake in 1977. The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges has recognized the award-winning school since 1979.

About Approximately 10,000 estheticians have graduated from the program since it began.in its years of operation! In addition, students who began in the 2018-2019 school year enjoyed saw a higher-than-average graduation rate of 96 percent%.

Founder Catherine Hinds is considered one of the earliest female beauty industry entrepreneurs and was an early promoter of exfoliation. This could be because of Hinds' scientific view of skincare, as she thought skincare was about health, as much as it was about beauty.

She ran the school until 2001, when her daughter, An, took the reins. One of her granddaughters is also an esthetician. So, this is truly a family passion.

To this day, the Catherine Hinds Institute focuses exclusively on esthetics. It uses a robust and cutting-edge curriculum to help its students leave the school ready for the workforce.

The Catherine Hinds Institute offers Core Esthetics and Master Esthetics programs and continuing education when possible. Classes may include:

  • American and European facials
  • Fantasy makeup
  • HydraFacials
  • Makeup
  • Skin treatments for aging, acne, etc.

Master esthetics students could can learn advanced versions of treatments, as well as plus microneedling, dermaplaning, and more.

Both programs are state-approved and strive to ensure esthetician training can cross state lines with few hiccups.

Full-time students attend classes on weekdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Part-time students may attend from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 6:15 to 10:15 p.m.

Chronic tardiness to any program could result in dismissal, and students only get credit for the actual time spent at school.
