I was nervous about getting highlights in my hair only because everywhere I had gone before, I ended up with bright orange hair. The 1st time I came in,...

I went in for a cut and partial highlight. The girl who did my hair (@marisanikolebeauty_ show her IG some love bc she’s great!!) was SO kind and thoughtful and put her whole heart into my hair. She killed the cut! I am still obsessed with it and receive many compliments. Instead of a partial highlight, we decided to go with a balayage, but the money piece was about twice the size on one side of my head than the other. I dm’ed her about it and we decided it was a simple mistake because of the sectioning. We got it sorted out for me to go in to get it redone by another student for free a few days later. I was so grateful and understood that mistakes happen, it’s all part of the learning experience. When I went in 3 days later I was with another girl who was very receptive of my concerns with the moneypiece and blended out some sections that were lightened a little chunkier than others. She seemed very skilled and we got done pretty quick, plus her instructor was there to give her advice on how to go about the process whole time. However, this girl and the instructor both let me leave with a huge dark stripe of hair where the money piece was. I didn’t notice because it’s on the side of my head and the lighting in there wasn’t great. They both clearly noticed and muttered something along the lines of “she didn’t notice” or “she can’t see that” to each other, but didn’t say anything to me about it so I was none the wiser. It wasn’t until I had gotten into my car and was about to leave that I noticed, when I checked the mirror. I went back in and asked to speak with the director of education (lady in charge) about how my hair looked worse now than it did before. She didn’t see any problem and was extremely condescending. No apology, no empathy for my situation, just a fake smile plastered on her face and a cheap “we can redo it again?” WHY would I want to sit in the chair for another four hours just to risk something else going wrong?? Not to mention the fact that in order to fix the dark stripe, they’d have to lighten it again, according to the director of education. I absolutely would not do that, considering the amount of lightener that had been put on my hair within a 3 day span (it felt sooo dry, and still does feel damaged compared to before). I am not a super picky person when it comes to my hair, but the bar is on the FLOOR for these students. I question the professionalism and integrity of the instructors and the director of education. When taking Avalon’s atmosphere, price point, and quality into account, I would not recommend this school, especially if you’re looking for a balayage or highlights. I would highly suggest saving up a few extra dollars to get it done by a licensed stylist, as I personally don’t think the prices are worth it. Photos are after the first time getting my hair done, and after the redo. Up to you if you want to take the gamble, but I definitely won’t be returning.

I can't recommend Paulina enough! She truly works magic with hair. I went to her feeling unsure about what I wanted, and she took the time to listen and offered great suggestions. The result was beyond my expectations! Not only did she nail the color I was going for, but the cut she gave me was also perfect for my face shape and lifestyle. She's not only incredibly talented but also so friendly and easy to talk to. I left the salon feeling like a million bucks. If you're looking for a stylist who truly cares about her clients and delivers amazing results, look no further than Paulina
